Looking back to July 1996, while holding the position of BMWNA Paint and Body Development Manager, Dan Doot was assigned the task of creating a collision repair certification program for the North American Dealer Network. This would be a first, as no such automotive manufacturers program had previously existed.

The objectives were crystal clear. First, generate a BMW collision repair network of facilities capable of restoring damaged vehicles to manufacturer’s standards and specifications. With the “Ultimate” goal of topping the J.D. Powers Customer Satisfaction Index, flawless collision repair could only enhance the ownership
experience. Additionally, during a period when warranty claims are dropping and mileage maintenance intervals were increasing, dealerships were in need of additional revenue streams and increasing dealer service drive visits. The program criteria guidelines would focus on various aspects of the repair process. Staff training, both technical and administrative must be maintained. All required equipment and special tools on hand. Only utilization of new OEM BMW parts for repair, no aftermarket or salvage parts allowed. BMW selected and approved paints must be applied. Facility environment must reflect the “BMW” brand, as well as maintaining the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction.

Following a one year “pilot program” at both East and West coast dealerships, the program received only the highest praises from dealership management, and the program was rolled out to the dealer network. Over the next three decades, the program would only grow and even inspire almost every auto manufacturer to follow suit.

Following a 30-year career at BMW, Dan would retire from his corporate obligations but not his passion for repairing vehicles to their pre-accident conditions as it relates to safety, appearance, performance, function and value. Upon acquiring Eagle Body Works in late 2021, Eagle Body Works attained BMW CCRC status in 2022 and was awarded best overall BMW CCRC nationwide in 2023.
